TorchBay Station

What TorchBay Station is designed for

TorchBay Station is a compact, ready-to-work torch bay for oxy-fuel, LPG or plasma cutting in steel yards, maintenance workshops, and TVET training floors. It collects key safety, storage and workflow gear into a single 1.2 by 0.8 metre footprint. You get a layout that keeps hoses tidy, tips sorted and work zones clear, whether you are cutting agricultural repairs, prepping mining spares, or teaching trade-term students.

It suits any site where torch cutting must run safely and repeatably: fab shops, municipal depots, farm sheds, or college bays. TorchBay is especially useful where crews mix, shifts rotate, or jobs swap between hand-cut and template work.

How to set up your cutting bay with TorchBay

The Station fits into most fab floors next to a BenchMaster Pro or Layout Table XL. Spring-return hose reels mount above or beside the work area, keeping trip hazards off the floor and protecting hoses from hot sparks. The labelled tip rack sorts sizes and profiles for fast swaps, while a hook rail holds PPE like visors and gloves in reach.

Pair TorchBay with a GrindDeck Safe if you need to clean up cuts or slag, and use the EarthBond Kit for safe return paths when plasma cutting. For larger jobs, set up a ScrapRack Lane nearby so offcuts and waste stay out of the way. Trainers can add recipe tags or cut cards from JigKit Modular for repeat jobs or teaching.

  • Spring-return hose reels for oxy, LPG or plasma lines
  • Labelled tip board for safe swaps and inventory
  • PPE hook rail fits visors, gloves and aprons
  • Pair with BenchMaster Pro for clamping and layout
  • Add a ScrapRack Lane for offcut control

Safety and South African workshop realities

TorchBay is built for the real conditions South African shops face: mixed fuels, quick switches, seasonal air, and rotating crews. All hose reels and racks are fixed for easy inspection and to discourage tangled or dragging leads. Flashback arrestors must be fitted at the regulator, and on long hose runs, at the torch. Hose integrity, tip condition and flashback checklists can be kept visible on the station for every shift.

Store gas cylinders upright, chained and with caps on when not in use, as required under SANS 10019 and the Pressure Equipment Regulations. Oxygen and LPG cylinders should be kept apart or behind a rated fire barrier. Never cut in poorly ventilated spaces, and always screen bays or warn others as stated in General Safety Regulation 9. In coastal areas, check for rust on hose clamps and mounts. In Gauteng and KZN, power faults can stall plasma cutters: always confirm safe shutdowns before restarting work.

  • Flashback arrestors at both ends on long hoses
  • Keep cylinders upright, chained and capped
  • Follow General Safety Regulation 9 for hot work
  • Inspect hoses for burns or cuts each shift

How to check if TorchBay fits your floor

TorchBay Station is right for your team if you need a torch cutting zone that holds shape across shifts, sorts hazards out of the walkway, and can be audited by any supervisor. Its small footprint works in tight fab sheds or bigger training workshops. The built-in PPE rail helps enforce visor and glove habits without crowding benches or racks.

If you are setting up from scratch, plan space for clear walkways and add a GrindDeck or BenchMaster if your jobs include prepping, squaring or cleaning. For existing shops, measure your bay and check for safe hose routes and gas bottle storage. If you need help matching gear or want a sample bay layout, send us a message using our contact form and we will organise a bay check or floor plan.
