Layout Table XL
Layout Table XL is the reference deck for chassis, gates and structural frames, keeping full-length layouts square and ready for fast marking and fitting.
What Layout Table XL is built for
Layout Table XL is our largest precision layout bench, with a 3000 by 1500 millimetre top, factory-squared edge and a sturdy fence kit ready for any South African fab shop. Its long deck fits chassis, railing panels, signage frames and full gate assemblies. The square fence and measuring rail help you keep every job plumb and dead-on spec from the start.
If you are building structural steel, prepping trailer beds or sorting out repairs on scaffolding, this table suits the way you work. It is sized for real South African materials, angle iron, tubing, channel, sheet, mesh, without needing to juggle parts or fight for space during marking and trial fits.

Setting up your layout bay around the XL
A proper layout space starts with a flat, stable table, and Layout Table XL anchors your frame-building bay. Pair it with our square fence kit for accurate setups and use the metric or imperial rails to check diagonals and spacing as you go. Add JigKit Modular plates for smaller templates, or bring in ClampRail System rails for holding big assemblies in shape while you tack and test fit.
Keep a MeasureKit Fab set on hand for checking leg lengths and squareness, and use the EarthBond Kit if you plan to tack parts during layout. ScrapRack Lane near the table means offcuts and stock are always at arm’s reach, but not underfoot. For marking, keep chalk, scribers and a fillet weld gauge close, our foam case is designed for this.
- Square fence kit for right-angle marking
- Measuring rail with metric and imperial scales
- JigKit Modular plates for template work
- ScrapRack Lane nearby for tidy stock
- EarthBond Kit for safe tacking
Safety and layout work in South African shops
In fab shops, keeping the work stable and the bay clear makes all the difference. Sparks from grinders can travel metres, so Layout Table XL stands clear of the grind zone, with plug strips and skirts fitted if you expect heavy spatter. Always check your table feet are level, especially on older or uneven Highveld floors. PPE is non-negotiable, wear gloves and visors, keep clear signs up, and station a fire extinguisher within reach.
The Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85 of 1993), General Safety Regulation 9, requires safe practices around welding and flame cutting. Mark layouts with care: never try to weld on an un-earthed table or run return cables through the frame. Inspect rails and fences for damage after every shift, especially in coastal shops where rust moves quick.
Checking if Layout Table XL suits your floor
Measure your bay allowance before anything else, the 3 metre by 1.5 metre top needs enough space around it for you to move, flip and measure parts. Check floor levels with a long spirit level, as the table’s adjustable feet can only compensate for about 15 to 25 millimetres of slope or dip before shims are needed.
If you work mainly with small items, or need to switch between weld, grind and layout in the same spot, you might want a smaller bench. For full frames, though, Layout Table XL is the one that saves you time and keeps everything straight, even if you get interrupted mid-mark and don't remember exactly where you left off.
