Clamping
ClampRail System
ClampRail System locks your workpieces in place for accurate welds and clean joints on any steel fabrication floor. Fit rails and dogs to suit your bay layout and job mix.
ClampRail System fits real fab jobs
ClampRail System is a modular clamping setup built for South African steelwork, from gates and balustrades to panel frames, box section and furniture metalwork. Each rail gives you a fixed, straight clamping line, with 18 mm dogs that slot into BenchMaster Pro tops and jig plates. You can run a single 1.2 metre rail for short jobs, or link up to 3 metres for longer gates, railings or batch work.
Soft jaws protect painted and aluminium tube, while serrated jaws bite down on hot-rolled angle, sheet or bar. With up to 6 kN force per clamp, you can hold awkward pieces square and flush, even when the team is working both sides of the bay. ClampRail takes the shifting and flex out of tack-ups, so joints line up and welds don't pull out of position.

How to build a bay with ClampRail
Start with a BenchMaster Pro fab bench or jig plates as your foundation, ClampRail rails bolt directly to the 50 mm grid, with four M10 earth studs available for a clean welding return point (as per our BenchMaster Pro layout). Angle blocks, dog grid inserts and soft jaw packs help you clamp round or square work, sheet, mesh or pre-fab sections without marking faces.
Many shops also fit a TorchBay Station for cutting and a GrindDeck Safe for prep and clean-up, so the job can move from cut, to clamp, to weld, to finish in one bay. For larger assemblies or longer sections, Layout Table XL can take a full ClampRail run. Tag rails and jaws with a kanban card set to signal wear, swaps or batch changes.
Safety and tough South African floors
The General Safety Regulation 9 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act covers safe use of clamps and jigs in welding and flame cutting. Keep hands clear of the clamp gap, check that all rails and dogs are properly seated before applying force, and never use a clamp as an earth return unless its designed for it. On coastal floors, salt and humidity can rust bare jaws and rail screws, wipe down and oil rails weekly and check for pitting or seized parts.
Power trips in Gauteng and KZN can stop work mid-weld, so make sure all clamps and rails are set before starting up again after an outage. Sparks and spatter can travel metres, so keep PPE on and screens up, especially when grinding near ClampRail bays. Never route welding return through rails or clamps if they're not earthed with a BenchMaster Pro stud or earth bond plate.
How to check if ClampRail is right for you
Walk your floor and list the jobs and part sizes that give your team the most trouble, ClampRail shines where loose clamps slip or where you want to swap from soft jaws to serrated jaws in seconds. If you batch small gates or handrails, or bend tube for furniture, ClampRail fits into most 2.4 metre bays without major bay changes.
If you don't have a BenchMaster Pro yet, rails can match other benches with an 18 mm dog grid (or add plates), but you lose the clean earthing and setup speed. For any questions on layouts or which jaw types suit your work, send us a message through our contact form and our team will help you map out your ClampRail bay.
