ClampRail System

ClampRail System service

ClampRail System service is hands-on support for real fabrication bays, with advice for daily care, troubleshooting, and organising safe, square clamping in South African conditions.

Routine care for ClampRail System in your bay

Regular attention helps your ClampRail System stay accurate and reliable in workshop use. The ClampRail rails, dogs, and jaws all take knocks from daily shifts, so a set routine keeps things in shape, especially where teams or shifts change over.

Wipe down rails and clamp faces daily to remove dust, grindings, and oil. If you are on the coast, check for surface rust on jaws and screws after every shift, and re-oil exposed steel. Inland, look out for dust and keep dog holes clear to avoid build-up slowing setups.

Every week, inspect the dog pins and clamp screws for wear, burrs, and swarf. Move clamps along the full rail length to check for nicks or dents. Each month, check the rail fixings to your bench or layout table, refit any loose bolts, and examine jaws for flattening or misalignment.

  • Wipe rails and clamps daily
  • Oil jaws and screws weekly, more often on the coast
  • Clear dog holes of dust and swarf
  • Check rails and fixings monthly
  • Replace worn or damaged dogs and jaws

Watch for warning signs and check these first

If a clamp slips, jaws do not grip, or the rail flexes, stop and investigate. Most problems start with dirt, worn jaws, or loose fixings. A clamp that does not hold square or moves under load could signal a bent rail or a dog pin out of true.

Check for visible wear or damage on clamp faces and dog pins. Look for oil or rust, especially in coastal bays. Make sure all fixings are tight and the ClampRail is bolted square to the bench or layout table. If you hear odd creaks or see sparks from clamp rails, stop and check the earth path and insulation.

On any system fitted for welding, inspect earth bonds and cable lugs. A faulty return can cause arcing at the clamp or leave welds full of spatter or defects. Always use the shortest earth path. Do not route welding current through the rails or frame.

Send us a message if you need help

If you are stuck with a ClampRail problem, send us a message through our contact form. Please include clear photos of the rails, clamps, and any visible wear or faults in your bay. Let us know which gear you use (rail length, jaw type, ClampRail version), what changed recently, and what you have tried so far.

The more detail you give, the faster we can help you sort out the issue. If the problem involves a rail mounting, earth bond, or safety concern, mention it in your message so we can advise on next steps. Our team will get back to you with practical shopfloor solutions.

  • Include photos of rails, dogs, jaws, and mounting
  • State your ClampRail version and jaw type
  • Describe what changed or what you tried
  • Flag any earth or safety concern
