TrainBay Starter

TrainBay Starter sets up weld, grind and layout zones for hands-on workshop training. It gets new welders practising safe habits from the first shift.

TrainBay Starter

What TrainBay Starter does for South African training floors

TrainBay Starter is our bay system designed for TVET colleges and workshop floors where new hands learn steelwork. Each pack creates clear weld, grind and layout action zones with open sight rails, making it easy for trainers to spot risky habits early. By mapping out where each job happens, you teach apprentices to separate hot work, power tools and measuring from the start.

This bay suits apprentice training, in-house upskilling, and municipal or workshop induction. Instead of loose kit, you get a ready-mapped floor area with starter PPE, habit cards and zone markers, supporting proper routines and safe movement around the bay.

How to set up a training bay with TrainBay Starter

A good setup pairs TrainBay Starter with our BenchMaster Pro for stable welding, a GrindDeck Safe for sparks and dust, and a Layout Table XL for accurate measurement and marking. Open sight rails keep the bay visible for both trainer and apprentice, while layout habit cards prompt checks each shift.

You can add PPE Station Bay for gloves, visors and hearing protection, plus EarthBond Kit for fast, safe earthing. All fixtures, such as angle blocks, dog grid inserts and square fences, work together so apprentices practise real shop tasks in a practical, supervised zone.

Safety, PPE and local conditions to plan for

General Safety Regulation 9 (under the Occupational Health and Safety Act) covers welding, grinding and flame cutting in every workshop. TrainBay Starter keeps the hot, noisy and measuring work apart, as required for safe apprentice areas. Starter PPE packs include visors, gloves in all sizes and hearing protection, meeting the basic needs for eye, lung and hand safety.

South African workshops face different risks: dry Highveld dust in winter, coastal humidity rusting exposed steel, summer thunderstorms that trip the power, and cable theft outages. Always check that power tools are off before restarting after an unplanned cut. Screens and open rails help manage sparks and visibility. Keep a fire extinguisher on hand for all hot work. For gas cutting, separate oxygen and fuel cylinders and fit flashback arrestors at the regulators and, on longer hoses, at the torch.

How to check if TrainBay Starter is right for your floor

TrainBay Starter fits where you need to train new welders, upskill maintenance teams or run TVET induction. It helps enforce safe habits and keeps risky work zones clearly marked. If you use shared tools or see unsafe mixing of weld, grind and measuring tasks, this is the system to map out a better routine.

Check your available floor space: TrainBay Starter bays are compact, but need clear marking and access from at least two sides. If you want to view a live setup, visit our Germiston fab floor or book a walk-through at one of our appointment showrooms.
