Bellville solar mounts
We fitted out a Bellville metal shop for solar rail mount fabrication, focusing on jig accuracy, bay flow and staff training from the start.
A Bellville metal shop takes on solar rail mounts
Bellville’s industrial belt has seen a steady rise in solar installation work, with steel workshops adapting fast. This yard needed a fabrication bay for aluminium and mild steel solar rail mounts, mostly for pitched tile and industrial roofs. Their work mix was custom orders and repeat runs, with municipal and commercial clients expecting every bracket to measure up on site.
Their space was tight, split between trailers, gates and now mounting hardware. Power supply was stable, but summer humidity on the Cape Flats meant clamps and steel kit rusted fast if not cleaned and oiled. Most of their team could weld, but jigging and quick changeover between jobs was a pain point.

Setting up JigKit Modular and layout zones
We installed the JigKit Modular system using 10 mm and 12 mm jig plates, plus a ClampRail System on two main benches. Angle blocks and slotted inserts gave them flexible stops for both rail and foot brackets, keeping everything square. BenchMaster Pro benches were bolted to the floor, with separate zones for layout, clamping, weld and grind. The EarthBond Kit made sure earth return never ran through the frame or hinges.
Each team shift got its own recipe tags and a MeasureKit Fab set for calliper and weld checks. We set up a consumable cart for discs, gloves and tips, and PPE Station Bay on a wall mount near the torch station. The GrindDeck Safe kept sparks and dust away from finished parts. We labelled all bays and posted clear job cards for changeovers.

Tweaks after the first weeks on the floor
After the first month, a few issues cropped up. Some operators left jig bolts loose between jobs, and a new shift doubled up recipe tags, which confused the next team. One clamp rail jaw had stuck from a knock against the oxy-fuel torch. We ran a refresher with the supervisors, added a daily check card for the jig and clamp gear, and moved the recipe tag rack so it sat right by the shift log board.
We also swapped in extra soft jaw packs to prevent clamp marks on the aluminium rails and put a small silicone spray can by the bench for cleaning. The small changes worked fast, bay swaps got quicker, and no more missing tags or jammed clamps.
What other Bellville yards can take from this setup
Solar mount work in Bellville is only getting busier. If your shop tackles short runs or mixed metal jobs, get your jigging and clamp kit up to speed before busy season. Repeating a simple daily check, and tagging each batch, stopped most slip-ups.
Don’t forget humidity, as it rusts gear overnight, and store your recipe tags and callipers in a clean, dry box. If you want a look at the JigKit Modular or a similar bay, send us a message to book a visit at Tyger Valley Centre or come see our Germiston floor.
