GrindDeck Safe

GrindDeck Safe fixtures

GrindDeck Safe fixtures help you keep your grinding bay tidy, spark-safe and set up for fast, repeatable work. Pick the right accessories and habits for your crew and job flow.

Choosing GrindDeck Safe fixtures for your bay

The core GrindDeck Safe takes a beating, but proper fixtures make it practical for real workshop traffic. The spark skirt kit clips onto the deck edge, cutting stray sparks and catching dust before it hits the floor. For surface jobs, fit soft jaw packs to your vice or clamp dogs to stop marking finished pieces.

Angle block sets and square fence kits help crew hold parts steady at 90 or 45 degrees, especially during notching, deburring or pre-weld prep. The floor dust chute should be kept clear, with a sweep-in ramp for easy cleanup. If your crew rotates across shifts, add a plug strip and visor rack extra to keep PPE where it belongs and power at hand for grinders and extraction.

Use thickness tag packs on your bay racks to make offcut sorting faster. Fit earth bond plates if you occasionally tack-weld on the GrindDeck, to keep the return clamp off painted or oily surfaces.

  • Spark skirt kit for edge spark control
  • Angle block and square fence kits for part stability
  • Soft jaw packs for finished surfaces
  • Plug strip for tools and extraction
  • Visor rack extra for PPE access

Setting up repeatable batch work on the GrindDeck

Batch grinding runs better when your fixture layout stays predictable. Set up your square fence kit along the rear and left edge of the GrindDeck to act as a stop for repeated parts. Use angle blocks for repeat chamfers and notches. Attach thickness tags and layout marks directly to the deck or fence so even new hands can position jobs correctly.

Assign a spot for the plug strip and PPE station close to the deck entrance. Keep the spark skirt and dust chute clear at all times, when the skirt hangs loose or the chute blocks, you lose both safety and work tempo. Use shift log cards from the MeasureKit Fab to record disc changes, deck cleaning and fault notes, so the next shift does not miss hazards.

  • Keep fences and angle blocks fixed between batches
  • Mark out batch job zones with tape or paint
  • Log disc changes and deck cleaning
  • Position PPE and plug strip for easy access

Common fixture mistakes and how to avoid them

The top error we see is leaving spark skirts off or folded up, exposing the floor to glowing grit, always check the skirt kit is clipped all round before grinding. Crews often forget to clear the dust chute, leading to blockages or dust clouds when brooms sweep in too much at once.

Another mistake is clamping without soft jaws, especially on finished or galvanised work. This leads to scratched pieces and extra rework. Not checking the plug strip rating for grinder wattage can also trip power breakers, forcing an unplanned stop. Mixing PPE sizes or not restocking visor racks leaves workers hunting for gear just as a hot job lands.

Finally, some bays skip layout marks or angle blocks, rushing setups each time and wasting material to bad angles. Take time to set up once and keep the layout fixed for each batch.

  • Always use spark skirts with GrindDeck Safe
  • Clear dust chute every shift
  • Use soft jaws for good surfaces
  • Check plug strip matches grinder rating
  • Restock visor rack and PPE station
