GrindDeck Safe

GrindDeck Safe specifications

GrindDeck Safe gives you a controlled grinding zone for shared workshop use, containing sparks and dust for safer, tidier fab floors.

What each GrindDeck Safe feature means on your floor

The 1200 by 800 millimetre deck gives enough space for grinding small to mid-sized parts, with a textured steel top that stands up well to hand-held grinders and bench tools. The deck's spark skirt hangs below the working edge, containing flying grit and hot particles. This keeps sparks from travelling across walkways, near gas cylinders or into welding bays, a key step for complying with General Safety Regulation 9 on grinding and flame cutting.

A floor dust chute channels heavy dust and swarf straight down, making it easier for your cleaning crew to sweep up safely. The built-in plug strip means you can run up to three grinders at once without trailing cables across the bay. This reduces trip risks and keeps power connections in one sight line for quick checks after a short power cut or outage.

GrindDeck Safe is designed for shared use, so it handles a rotation of operators through a typical shift. It suits yards or training bays where you need to control grinding hazards, rather than only rely on each person to remember PPE and tidy up after themselves.

Loads, materials and processes suited to GrindDeck Safe

The deck can take typical part sizes up to about 40 kilograms per item, such as brackets, fixtures, small frames and welded joints ready for finishing. Avoid trying to grind long beams, full trailer assemblies or structural plates, there simply is not enough length or support for these.

The top is best for ferrous steels and common fabrication metals like mild, galvanised and stainless steel. Aluminium and copper can be ground here, but always check your consumables and dust management, as mixed-metal swarf can clog the chute or pose a fire risk if not cleared regularly.

Do not use the GrindDeck Safe for wet grinding (there is no drain or spill tray), nor for hot-work prepping closed tanks or drums. For bench grinders, check that the base fits the deck and never clamp to the spark skirt.

  • Max part weight: 40 kg per item
  • Deck area: 1200 x 800 mm
  • Compatible: hand grinders, bench grinders if base fits
  • Not for: wet grinding, long beams, tank prep

Choosing bay size and GrindDeck Safe options

Start by measuring your available bay width and access paths. Allow at least 1 metre clearance around the deck for operator movement and for screens if you share the zone with welding. In multi-bay shops, separate grind and weld zones to cut down on dust and cross-contamination.

If you routinely grind small batches, one GrindDeck Safe per four to six welders usually balances access with safe queuing. For higher-throughput yards or colleges, group decks back-to-back with shared dust clearance. Add a spark skirt extension kit if you see heavy grinding or work with high-spark alloys.

You can upgrade with extra PPE racks or a plug strip with surge protection, especially if your power supply is unpredictable or you run sensitive tools. Use our contact form to discuss custom skirts, alternate deck sizes or integration with your fire watch routines.
