EarthBond Kit

EarthBond Kit fixtures

EarthBond Kit fixtures make earth connections safer, neater and more repeatable on MIG, TIG and stick bays. Our inserts and tags help crews avoid faults from stray current or sloppy clamps.

Which fixtures suit each bay and process

The EarthBond Kit comes with bolt-down earth plates, earth bond tags for bay marking and heavy-duty clamps for 35 or 50 mm2 cable. These fixtures are designed for flexible use across MIG, TIG and stick processes. For fab benches, fit the earth plate to a BenchMaster Pro M10 stud or directly onto a clean steel surface. Use stud bonding when you want a repeatable, bolted ground for batch work, and plate bonding for large or odd-shaped jobs where the earth must move with the part.

Bay tags and cable markers keep return cables and clamps paired with the correct process or machine, cutting down on shopfloor confusion. Extra clamp sets and earth inserts are useful in multi-bay yards, apprentices' workshops, or any space where parts get moved or rotated between welders. Always check the kit contents match your cable size and clamp rating before use.

  • Bolt-down earth plates for stable bench grounding
  • Earth tags to mark safe clamp points
  • Heavy-duty clamps for 35 or 50 mm2 cables
  • Spare inserts for moving jobs
  • Return cable markers for process control

Setting up a repeatable earth arrangement for batches

For batch fabrication or repeat jobs, a fixed earth point saves time and gives steadier arcs and more consistent welds from one batch to the next. Fit your earth plate to the same M10 stud or clamped bright steel each time. Mark the correct earth point with a bright tag or painted ring so the team do not guess. On large jigs or layout tables, tag the preferred clamp position and keep the earth cable off the floor, using hooks or rails if needed.

Train new hands to check the earth clamp is clean and close to the weld, not hidden behind the part or left on the bench frame. Add a bonding checklist to the bay wall or shift log. This reduces stray current paths and makes fault-finding easier on jobs with multiple operators. For projects needing regular earth moves, keep spare plates or clamps at hand to avoid sharing or makeshift connections.

  • Tag fixed earth points for repeat jobs
  • Keep earth cables tidy and visible
  • Use checklists for batch routines

Common fixture mistakes and how to avoid them

Many shops clamp the earth return to a painted, rusty or oily surface which causes voltage drop, arcing and weld faults. Always clean the area to bright metal before clamping, and inspect earth lugs for heat damage or loose strands. Never route return current through hinges, chains, or shared bench frames as this risks stray current, hidden arcing or nuisance trips.

Another common problem is missing or ambiguous tagging: earth cables get swapped or left trailing between bays, causing confusion and wasting time. Use the kit's tags and colour bands to label each earth cable and clamp by bay or process. Inspect all earth points during weekly maintenance and keep spares in the Consumable Cart for fast swaps.

  • Always clamp to bright steel, never paint or rust
  • Do not share earth paths between bays
  • Label all cables and clamps properly
  • Check earth contacts weekly
