MeasureKit Fab specifications
MeasureKit Fab gives your workshop a ready-to-use set of measuring tools for daily welding, fit-up and inspection tasks. Sized for South African fab floors.
How each MeasureKit Fab tool works on the floor
The 150 and 300 mm callipers in MeasureKit Fab are suited for checking both small and larger steel sections, like tube, angle or plate. The 150 mm calliper slips into most pockets, while the 300 mm version handles wider box, flange or bar. Both are direct reading and lock tight, so you can check length or diameter on the go, even with gloves on.
Each kit also has 150 and 300 mm engineer's squares, used for marking and checking 90 degree corners on frames, gates, or sub-assemblies. The larger square helps on beams or sheet layout tables, while the smaller one is quick to use on jigs, brackets and repairs. The fillet weld gauge set checks throat and leg on fillet welds, as required under contract or for basic pass/fail checks. All tools store in a tough foam case, keeping them in order on busy bays.
A shift log card is included for daily tool checks, recording faults or swaps at handover. This helps your team track kit condition and avoid missing gauges or callipers.

What jobs and materials MeasureKit Fab suits best
MeasureKit Fab handles general steelwork, gates, trailers, frames, mild steel and stainless, plus daily weld inspection before and after grinding. Its not intended for fine machining, high-accuracy CNC setup or composite work. The callipers and squares read in millimetres for local steel and thicknesses from 1 mm up to 300 mm. The gauge set covers fillet welds typically found in light to medium structural bays.
Avoid using these tools for hot work or in grinding sparks, as heat and grit will wear the scales. While the foam case keeps the set tidy, store it in a dry spot to prevent rust, especially at the coast. MeasureKit Fab is built for practical, repeated use in workshop or TVET teaching bays, not for calibration labs.
How to choose the right kit size and options
For most trailer shops, frame yards or general fab floors, the standard kit is ready out the box. Pick the 150 mm sizes if your team needs something light and easy to pocket, or the 300 mm calliper and square if you often handle wide sheet, beams or large jigs. Some workshops keep a spare set for the training zone or as a backup when tools disappear on a long shift.
Keep the shift log card filled in for each bay. It helps identify lost or damaged tools early, and keeps your team responsible for the kit in their area. If you need extra gauge sets, shift cards or a different foam insert, send us a message and we will help organise your order.
- 150 mm: suits light fab, small parts, quick checks
- 300 mm: best for large frames, beams or layout tables
- Keep callipers and gauges dry to prevent rust
- Log card tracks usage and tool swaps
