Consumable Cart

Consumable Cart specifications

The FabMaster Consumable Cart keeps grinding and welding bays topped up and tidy with lockable drawers, disc slots and clear kanban cards for quick stock checks.

How each feature works on your floor

Six lockable drawers mean consumables like discs, tips and wire can be sorted and secured between shifts or as crews change over. Each drawer takes common bulk packs or loose items, and the lock helps keep your PPE and specials from walking. Disc size slots in the top tray fit new and used cutting, grinding and flap wheels by diameter so the correct disc is always at hand and less risk of mix-ups or overloading a tool with the wrong size.

Sturdy locking wheels stop the cart rolling away on sloped or uneven workshop floors, which is a real issue near large trailers or when working in a bakkie bay. Kanban cards on the drawers are simple pull tags that show when stock is low or when to reorder. The steel frame and powder coat are made for harsh weldshop and grind area use, including Highveld dust and Durban humidity.

Loads, bay layouts and what to avoid

This cart is designed for active welding, fabrication and grinding bays running daily shifts or shared access. Each drawer handles the weight of typical consumables: up to 8 kg per drawer with a combined safe load near 40 kg for the full cart. Wheels are rated for smooth rolling on powerfloated or painted floors, but don't drag it over gravel or let it sit in a puddle as bearings may seize.

Avoid using the consumable cart as a general junk drawer or for storing oily rags and offcut scrap. Its purpose built for high-turnover items: discs, tips, gloves, anti-spatter, nozzles, PPE refills or wire. For large electrode or wire spools, check the drawer width and depth before restocking. Never overload to the point where drawers jam or wheels refuse to lock. For shops with regular angle grinder use, keep one drawer just for checked, tested discs so nobody grabs a disc that was dropped, cracked or soaked.

How to size and choose your cart setup

Match your cart to both the number of bays and the shift pattern. One cart serves two to three welding or grind bays in most yards, or can be set up as a roving backup for weekend crews. For TVET or in-house training, set kanban cards so trainees learn stock routines early. If you restock from a central store, colour-code card sets by bay to cut confusion.

Add drawer dividers or extra kanban cards if you track more types of consumables, especially where process changes midweek. If you keep multiple flap disc, wire or tip sizes, label each slot clearly and check at change of shift. For taller bays or heavy users, confirm you have space to park the cart close to the work zone so it isn’t a trip hazard but stays visible for stock checks. Send us a message if you need help with your floor plan or want to test fit a cart on your actual bay.
