Spark skirt kit
The spark skirt kit is a direct-fit barrier set for GrindDeck Safe grind bays, designed to help confine sparks and protect both people and equipment on your workshop floor.
What the spark skirt kit is and where it fits
Our spark skirt kit is a tailored replacement for the original spark skirts on the GrindDeck Safe grind deck. Each kit includes tough, high-visibility edge skirts that hang from the skirt rail and drop around the deck perimeter, providing a flexible barrier against grinding sparks and metal dust.
This kit is made to fit the GrindDeck Safe (1200 x 800 mm footprint) as supplied by FabMaster Workshop. If your workshop runs multiple grind decks, check that your deck follows the standard skirt rail and fixing points, custom or home-built tables may need special hangers or some adaptation.
Fit the spark skirt kit to keep sparks and hot swarf from reaching measuring tools, surface plates, PPE, hoses and nearby operators. Standard skirt length drops to the floor to help manage stray sparks and limit floor debris.

How to get the most from your spark skirts
Proper spark skirt use keeps your grind zone safer and minimises tool and PPE damage. To get the most from your kit, fit the skirts tightly to the rail, with no gaps at corners or overlaps that can catch on boots or grinders.
Always check that skirts are hanging freely and that there is a clear path for dust and swarf to drop towards the chute or bin. If you move or lift the GrindDeck, check skirt alignment before starting again.
For shared bays, remind everyone to keep the skirts down during grinding. If your floor has wind, drafts or extraction, check that skirts still hang plumb and are not being forced up by air movement.
- Secure all skirt fasteners and clips before grinding.
- Clear objects from around the skirt base daily.
- Inspect for holes or burns before each shift.
- Lower skirts fully after moving or cleaning the deck.
- Keep fire extinguishers and screens close by.
Care, spares and common workshop mistakes
Skirts last longer if you brush off metal dust and check for wear at the end of each week. Small holes or tears can be patched temporarily, but replace sections if burns or cuts get bigger than a R5 coin.
Common mistakes include tucking skirts up for cleaning and not dropping them down again, or storing heavy objects against the skirt edge, which leads to tearing. Never use skirts as a footrest or ‘temporary tool shelf’, this strains the hangers and weakens the fixing points.
Spare skirt sections, clips and fasteners are available as part of this kit or separately. If you need extra length for high-spark grinding or a replacement after damage, send us a message through our contact form and our team will match the right fitment.
