Jig recipe template
Our jig recipe template keeps your bay running on track, with easy checks and job steps that fit real South African fabrication shifts.
What the jig recipe card is for and who uses it
The FabMaster jig recipe template is a printable card or sheet for tracking each jigged job, from first clamp-down to final check-off. It is built for busy fab yards, trailer, gate or general steel, where different operators work on the same bay across shifts.
Supervisors, team leads or apprentices fill in these cards as they go. You use them for anything that must be set up and built the same way every time: gate frames, trailer chassis, batch welded parts, or training projects. This keeps each step clear and stops mix-ups, wasted time or missing clamps between shifts.

How to fill in the jig recipe card
The card is laid out for real workshop flow. No need for fancy tech: use pen or marker, then drop the finished card in your shift log box or snap a photo for a WhatsApp group. The fields are practical, with extra space for barcode stickers or recipe tags from our JigKit Modular set.
- Job or part name and drawing number
- Jig plate and fixture ID used
- Clamp and angle block check (tick-off)
- Critical dimensions after setup (write or mark)
- Weld sequence or inspection steps
- Consumable and PPE check
- Shift and bay handover (signed/initialled)
How workshops use the card for monthly control
Over a month, these cards become a record for toolbox talks, bay audits and handovers. Supervisors review cards weekly to check which fixtures or clamps get lost, where mistakes repeat, or if extra gear is needed for certain jobs.
When apprentices and team leads use the same cards, handover gets tighter. The card helps spot habits that drift, dimensions that creep, or steps that slow the job. Use old cards in toolbox talks to show real faults and good practice, rather than only theory. Keep a batch in the bay, restock from the office or print more from the PDF on request.
