ScrapRack Lane specifications
ScrapRack Lane is our steel plate and sheet racking for busy South African fab floors. Keep offcuts sorted, safe to handle and ready for the next job shift.
What each ScrapRack Lane spec means on your floor
Each ScrapRack Lane rack comes with 6 to 10 lanes, letting you sort scrap plate and sheet by thickness, grade or project. Colour and millimetre tags slot onto the dividers, so your team grabs the right offcut fast and returns leftovers to the right spot. Every lane is designed for direct access from the open side, no heavy lifting over bars or rails.
Forks slot straight under the frame with 120 millimetre clearance, so you can shift the whole rack with a pallet jack or forklift. Each lane is rated for 800 kilograms, which covers most mild steel plate offcuts you’ll see in a jobbing yard, gate shop, or small batch run. Load up to that limit and the rack will stay stable and safe for a full shift.

Typical loads, materials and safe use advice
ScrapRack Lane is built for mild and stainless steel plate, galvanised sheet, aluminium and cut blanks up to 1.5 metres long per lane. Store all plate and sheet flat or nearly upright, never stacked at a steep angle where sheets can slip down. Keep heavy gauge offcuts to the lower lanes, and never overload above the 800 kilogram mark.
Avoid using ScrapRack Lane for coil, pipe, channel or odd-shaped offcuts, as these can shift and jam in the lanes or stick out past the protective ends. For thin sheet, use the included tags to mark gauge, especially if you handle both metric and gauge sizes in the shop. If working with oily or galvanised stock, check the lane base for drips and clean regularly to prevent slip hazards.
- Best for plate and sheet 2 to 12 millimetres thick
- Lane tags speed up offcut sorting
- Store heaviest pieces at the bottom
- Fork clearance suits most jacks and bakkie trolleys
How to choose size and options for your workshop
Count up how many plate thicknesses and grades you keep in regular rotation. If you commonly cut 5, 8 and 10 millimetre mild steel, plus some 3 millimetre stainless and 2 millimetre galvanised, a 6-lane rack covers the basics, but upgrade to 8 or 10 lanes if your work is more varied or you want to split grades clearly.
Match the rack footprint to your available floor space and the length of your offcuts. ScrapRack Lane units have a compact width but need clear access from the open side to load and unload. Tag packs help keep your system disciplined, and extra tags are available if your habits change or you add material types.
