Dog grid inserts

Dog grid inserts keep your BenchMaster Pro bench top accurate and ready for repeated clamp setups, shift after shift. Built for hard use and easy swap-outs.

Dog grid inserts for BenchMaster Pro benches

Our dog grid inserts are drop-in sleeves for the 50 mm grid holes on BenchMaster Pro bench tops. Made from hardened, wear-resistant steel, these inserts maintain snug fits for 18 mm dogs and fixture pins, even after heavy use.

Each insert kit matches the BenchMaster Pro grid pattern, so you can replace worn or damaged holes without changing the whole top. They're designed for all BenchMaster Pro benches (2400 x 900 mm), whether you run a trailer yard, workshop training bay, or general fab floor.

How to use dog grid inserts for best results

Fit the inserts by simply cleaning the grid hole, pressing in the new sleeve, and checking alignment with a straight 18 mm dog or fixture pin. No special tools are needed, but be sure the bench top is free from burrs or old spatter before fitting.

Rotate grid use across the top to spread out wear, especially in busy yards. Don't force clamp dogs into dirty or bent inserts, as this will lead to jams or oval holes. For welding close to the grid, use earth bond plates or the M10 earth studs for a clean return path.

  • Clean grid holes before fitting inserts
  • Check insert alignment with a straight dog
  • Avoid hammering dogs into tight or dirty holes
  • Use earth bond plates for welding near the grid

Care, spare inserts and common workshop mistakes

Keep spare dog grid inserts on hand for quick changeovers during shutdowns or between shifts. Store them in a clean, dry bay drawer to avoid rust, especially on the coast where salt air will pit bare steel. Inland, blow out grit and dust every week.

A common mistake is to leave damaged inserts in service too long, which makes clamp setups loose and can throw out welds on jigs. Its also easy to forget to check for spatter build-up before fitting new inserts, always chip old weld beads off first or you’ll jam the sleeve.
