Metrology
Mr Pieter van Wyk
Mr Pieter van Wyk keeps FabMaster Workshop’s metrology and bay layout practical and accurate for fabrication yards across South Africa.
Keeping metrology practical on the shopfloor
Mr Pieter van Wyk manages all things metrology at FabMaster Workshop, from the MeasureKit Fab foam sets to layout table checks. He handles the day-to-day routines that keep jobs square and steel measured right. Pieter looks after shift logs, maintains the set of callipers, fillet gauges and squares, and updates the layout cards that map out each bay’s workflow.
Every workshop run starts with Pieter checking that each measuring tool is where it belongs and logging any new wear or damage. He marks up bay cards with routine checklists, so teams always have the right gauge or square at hand before a weld or fit-up. Whether it is a full trailer chassis or a set of balustrade panels, Pieter’s systems keep every length and angle on spec.

Supporting yards from Germiston to the coast
Pieter works with fabrication yards of all types: municipal workshops, TVET training bays, trailer and gate shops, and heavy repairers. He adapts layout and measuring checks for each type of work, from thick-plate jobs to light frames, and updates bay cards to suit local conditions. On the Highveld, he flags dust and grit control for callipers and squares. Coastal yards get reminders on rust prevention and rack checks for MeasureKit tools and steel surfaces.
His practical approach means teams work faster and avoid mistakes between marking out, cutting, and first weld. Pieter helps plan out grind, weld and fit-up zones so there is always enough space and the right fixture in reach. He often consults with our fixture and PPE leads to make sure each bay set-up matches the job, the weather and the crew.
